Project Information
Brief
Design an MVP that solves the following problems as a design challenge from Vend by Lightspeed. Vend is a point-of-sale (POS) and inventory management cloud-based software for retailers.
- 1Cashiers often struggle to find customer records at checkout quickly.
- 2Customers often forget to bring their loyalty cards.
- 3Retailers want to promote their products, but customers don't like to receive ads they're not interested in.

Mapping current user flow
Current checkout is slow and prone to human error. Cashiers need to talk to customers and search the database to identify them. Some stores require customers to use physical loyalty cards to earn points. Customers could run into multiple points of friction when trying to earn loyalty points at checkout as illustrated in the user flow below.
On the other hand, retailers sometimes send unsolicited promotional emails to users which get mixed with other emails. Unfortunately, many users find this intrusive, annoying and hard to manage.

My solution, ShoPass, is a mobile app for shoppers. It's integrated with Vend to create better communication channels between shoppers, POS and retailers. As shown below, all independent outlets that use Vend can retrieve a customer's record from Vend's central cloud by scanning the user's ShoPass QR code. Retailers can also use ShoPass to deliver richer, more personalised and less intrusive promotions to users compared to emails.
